KOLKATA: A teacher in Canning, who has lost his job following the Supreme Court SSC verdict on Thursday, attempted to die by suicide after writing a suicide note. She had consumed sleeping pills and is currently in intensive care at a hospital.
Chandan Maiti, general secretary of the Advanced Society for Headmasters & Headmistress, said: "Many families relied on this job. Some built homes with loans, while others arranged weddings for daughters or sisters. Ruthless creditors will now target those who have lost jobs. This teacher also fell into the creditors' trap." The survivor taught history at Raibaghini School in Canning.
A native of Midnapore, she began teaching at the school in 2019, residing in rented accommodation at Nabapalli. Her suicide note revealed additional personal struggles, including abandonment by her husband through divorce.
